The next part of the lab helps you set up your experiment. Double-check the lecture if you need help with the difference between controls and variables.

The Metric System

If we were in class, you would conduct this part with your groups. Instead, we’ve provided some information. Click on the images if you’d like to make them larger.

This is a meter stick.  If you have a ruler or measuring tape at home, you can conduct the measurement part. You may also be able to find a ruler online that is accurate.

Weight

This is a three beam balance.

At home, if it’s okay, you can measure out the amounts of salt with a teaspoon. 1 teaspoon= ~6 grams. 

Volume:

Since we don’t have a sink to measure water online, I’m providing you these data. With that in mind, try to complete the equation using the steps outlined in the video

1 quart is ~946 ml

         Hint: write out what you know on the side. What conversion factors will you need to use?

Temperature:

Folks tend to make this harder than it has to be. Read through the questions, think about what the question is asking. Here is an image of thermometers to help you out. (Try not to just google the answers)
